Sports Update: Windsurfng the Coast and Kiteboarding the Gorge

It's been a very windy summer so far, and we've been taking good advantage of it. A couple of weeks ago Kenja and I took a quick Coast trip to do some sailing.

Also, we've re-discovered kiteboarding with the advent of safer, more reliable gear.

Debauchery in the San Juans

A couple of weeks ago, we were invited to a wedding in the San Juan Islands, just northwest of Seattle. The weather was fantastic, which is more than you can say for the company (hah!).

Our good buddy was married in a magical garden, amids orcas and dolphins too. It was truly a spectacular celebration, with many of the Portland old crew in attendance, now having traveled from far and wide; distances which seemed to stretch to infinity.


As the evening continued, the level of civility quickly dropped.


Nonetheless, I remained the ladies man (evidence below).

Lago di Garda

I went to Italy recently on a business trip, and in the time honored tradition of combining work with play, I was able to sneak away to Lake Garda for a day. I went there about 10 years ago for a week of windsurfing, and I was happy to find that nothing has changed.


It wasn't really windy in the morning, so a mountain bike was rented for a nice ride along the steep slopes of Garda.


In the afternoon, the wind kicked up, making for an awesome 2 sport day in the Dolomites.
